Currently in the news there are a lot of stories about victimisation in the care system and also there is a programme coming out on BBC 1 on Sunday December 9th at 9pm based around the care system called 'Care'.

One story that has been published on December 3rd 2018 states that the health system is failing by not helping pensioners look after their family members who cannot afford to go into a care home. The story states that pensioners in Portsmouth are having to look after their family members who cannot afford to pay to go into a care home, even when the pensioners are struggling themselves. The article says:
"This can put enormous strain on people at an already difficult time in their lives."

One story in the Guardian says that hundreds of care home patients have died dehydrated or malnourished. The statistics which have come from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) state that in more than 1,000 care homes patients have died from dehydration, malnutrition or bedsores.
In a separate investigation done by the Guardian, they revealed that some of the country's worst care homes were owned by companies that in total made a profit of £113 million regardless of the poor levels of care.
The statistics revealed that from 2013 to 2017, dehydration was distinguished in 398 cases, malnutrition in 226 cases and bedsores recorded 839 times.

Another Guardian article expresses that a lady called Mary Parkes was stripped of her dignity at a care home in London. According to her niece, Mary became reliant on a wheelchair in the last year of her life and was often left alone in her room at a mouse-infested Bupa-run care home and nearly died after getting sepsis.

One story by the Portadown Times says that the Southern Trust and the Public Health Agency are working with local care homes in order to try and improve the experience of people living within care homes. It states that the Department of Health have identified Transformation Funding to try and help improve the quality, safety and experience of those living in Care Homes across Northern Ireland.

With reports of serious neglect of residents in several private care homes that has been going around, questions have been raised on whether looking after some of the most vulnerable individuals should be left in the hands of these people.
In this article it speaks a lot of the CQC (Care Quality Commission) by saying their inspectors visit the homes for a few hours, whereas family and friends who visit regularly get a better impression. It is also stated that the CQC's chief inspector of adult social care thinks that care homes that have shocking care are making huge profits for their directors and shareholders should be "forced out of the market".
